Vegan Jerky Tasting
**Giveaway Closed** Congratulations to the randomly selected winners: Brian S., Kat, and Aletha! Expect an email from me looking for a shipping address.
Forget your wine and chocolate because today we had ourselves a good ol’ fashioned vegan jerky tastin’. You think I’m fancy now, don’t you?
A couple of weeks ago I was lamenting how I never have anything to give away to all of you, but then I had an idea. With my birthday coming up on Sunday, I decided to celebrate by doing a few giveaways!! After all, you guys and gals deserve to get something out of this deal other than my charming vegan wit. I’m always so excited to read your comments and messages and you, my fellow tree chompers, make my day every time you, in any way, indicate you’re out there. Alright, enough with the love fest, but I really do appreciate you!

For the first giveaway, the good people over at Primal Spirit Foods were kind enough to send vegan jerky!! More on the giveaway later, but since they also sent me one of each flavor to try, I decided to have a little fun with the jerky love. As I mentioned, my grandma is staying with us this week, and so with 4 people here, we had just enough for that jerky tasting! I got technical too. I cut each flavor into 4 pieces, placing them on a plate with the wrapper above to indicate the flavor. Then I wrote the name of each flavor on a note card with places for each of us to write our thoughts about it. I told you this was fancy, people!

The “testers” were my little man (2), me (25), Chris (27), and my grandma (71). The flavor contenders were Hot & Spicy, Texas BBQ, Mesquite Lime, Hickory Smoked, Teriyaki, and Thai Peanut. We all have quite different tastes, so I was surprised to find both our first and last choices were all the same. Texas BBQ won hands down, and coming in last was Teriyaki because it had the least bold flavor. The little man chowed down on all of them with much excitement, except for the Hot & Spicy which he really tried to eat, but as I’ve mentioned before, he has that tongue wiping thing with spicy. Both he and my grandma were in agreement that it was spicy, but Chris and I didn’t think it was too hot at all! My grandma rated the 3 seitan jerkies, Mesquite Lime, Teriyaki, and Thai Peanut as the most tender, despite them not being her favorite flavors. Chris took his jerky testing duties very seriously and wouldn’t even discuss what he thought of any of them until the very end; he just chewed and scribbled. We had so much fun with our little tasting party and these really are flavorful, tender, yet chewy jerkies. I’m so glad I get to show my grandma some of the fun flavors of vegan!

Enough with our party- on to the giveaway! Three lucky tree-eaters will be receiving a package with one of each 6 Primal Strips flavors! All 3 winners will be chosen at random. To enter, comment below telling me which Primal Strips flavor you think would be your favorite. You could even visit their site to read the complete flavor descriptions. Anyone can enter as long as there’s no legal reason you can’t have jerky. If your country forbids vegan jerky, then I’m sorry, there’s just nothing I can do. Additional entries- do as many as you want:
- Follow me on Twitter (or if you already do), and leave a comment below saying you did with your @Twitter name.

I’m awesome because A: I don’t need a reason and B: I ate vegan jerky today. Sadly not primal strips though.

I actually love the Mesquite Lime jerky. Fell in love with it the 1st time I had it refuse to buy the other flavors… It is probably about time that I do. The only problem with this jerk is I have a hard time just eating one!

How awesome am I? Psh, how awesome are YOU! I really enjoy the blog, just now found it through crazysexylife … I think? I’ve been following links like a treasure hunt all day at work, haha.
I was raised by a vegetarian mom and an omni dad, and always had the freedom and options to eat either way. My older sister turned vegetarian at 13 and never turned back, I dabbled all through high school. The longest period of time I was ever a vegetarian was 8 months, but it always ended more because of personal choice versus willpower or because it was “hard” (because honestly, it’s so not!). However, since finishing my freshman year of college, I will be buying my own groceries and cooking my own meals for the first time. Now that I’m older and more mature I’ve read all the veg-lit about health benefits, environmental benefits, animal cruelty awareness, and the many advantages to this lifestyle. This time I’m in it for the long haul. And, seeing as I never liked milk or cheese even when I was omni, I think that a strict vegetarian/mostly vegan diet is a comfortable place for me. Blogs like this are great!
mmm, they all sound good but i’d really like to try the thai peanut
